INTERNSHIPS
Social Entrepreneurship Up Close
Business Consulting | Investment Banking | Knowledge & Insights
As an intern at Intellecap, you will be exposed first hand to the exciting world of social entrepreneurship in India and abroad!
Our interns share the same job responsibilities as full-time employees. So, we will give you thought-provoking projects, with clearly defined work streams and deliverables, in the hope that you will use your creativity and inventiveness to learn in our entrepreneurial environment. At the end of your internship, you would have something to show for your time spent here!
We accept internship applications all year round. However please apply two months before you hope to start on your internship, as our application process is very competitive. In addition, we can be flexible with start dates in order to accommodate motivated interns. We ask that interns stay for at least 8 weeks, as we feel that shorter engagements would not allow for sufficient immersion in or contribution to a project. We encourage motivated and qualified individuals to apply, whether undergraduates, graduate students, those between degrees, young professionals, or mid-career professionals.
We look for the following qualities:
• Cross-cultural work style: the skill to adapt to a new and changing workplace
• Ability to work independently, manage tight deadlines, and set project goals
We seek candidates that show a high potential for learning and a genuine commitment to enterprise-driven solutions for poverty. We are also happy to host academics wishing to spend part of their sabbatical performing research or fieldwork with Intellecap and are open to forging formal partnerships with academic institutions.
As the nature of each practice’s work is very different, indicative descriptions of intern projects and profiles are shown below. Intellecap is able to offer interns a nominal stipend. When our business lines have internship requirements, we put these up on our Current Opportunities page.

Intern Profile and Requirements
Business Consulting
For Business Consulting, interns may work on business planning engagements for innovative social enterprises, on research studies exploring a sector or a specific topic, or on supporting the team’s strategy development for engaging with new client segments. Projects can involve designing and conducting primary and secondary research, performing data analysis, and creating deliverables in the form of reports and presentations. There is no such thing as a typical intern profile for the Business Consulting team. We have accepted recent graduates, students in the midst of their MBA/Master’s Program, as well as professionals with several years of work experience looking to explore our field of work. At a minimum, interns should have completed their Bachelor’s Degree and have an appreciation for the social enterprise space, exposure to business and management principles, structured and logical thinking, and a clear output orientation. A strong inclination to working in a developing country is mandatory, and prior experience of management consulting will be an added advantage.
Investment Banking
Given the sensitivity of client information, interns working with our Investment Banking Group will work to support the team rather than on client-facing engagements. Projects are likely to focus on research and analysis of sectors, companies, and competitors, valuations, regulations, new instruments, etc. Strategy projects could also be created for new products being considered by the team, to identify and evaluate specific opportunities for our Investment Banking Group. Ideal candidates have a CA, MBA, MS, or are studying towards one of these degrees. A background in equity research, investment banking, or in an entrepreneurial venture in a relevant sector is weighted highly.
Knowledge and Insights
For Knowledge and Insights, interns can expect microfinance and social business immersion through participating in the management and creation of content for two global publications and/or in the organization of sector-building events. For the publications, projects can include creating a survey report that analyzes one of the many global surveys that we conduct, writing thematic articles and blog posts, conducting interviews, with the final deliverable being an article to be used either online or in print. There is ample scope to create specific projects in the areas of social media, strategic communications, online marketing/promotions, etc. For events, interns will be involved in discussion, content building, branding, organization, and execution of our sector-building events. Interns for the Knowledge & Insights team can come from many different backgrounds and areas of expertise, including business, consulting, development studies, economics, journalism, etc. What we look for is a passion for the social enterprise space and a commitment to advancing Intellecap’s mission.
